Budgeting and YOUR Front Desk!
A lot of salon owners don’t know where to start when it comes to budgeting – let alone budgeting when it comes to their front desk! Every bit of money that comes into your salon company has to be spent correctly to the budgets that we speak to in our budget guidelines- in order to have profit at the end of the month.
What should my budget be for the Front Desk?
It is 5% of Gross Sales. Let’s break that down:
Service Sales + Retail Sales = Gross Sales
Gross Sales x .05 = X
X = the monthly budget for your Front Desk!
What should I pay per hour for a Front Desk position?
That’s a really complicated question to answer! As we know, coast to coast and city to city the minimum wage varies significantly.
What we encourage you to do is HIRE COMPETITIVELY.
I went through the McDonald’s drive-thru the other day and saw that they are starting at $10/hour, at Bath and Body Works they had a sign that said – “Starting at $11/hour.” That is definitely more than what the minimum wage is for the city – but that is what the COMPETITIVE starting wage is. That’s where you start.
